Outpatient Cardiovascular Care Expands with CMS 2026 Proposal

Cardiovascular care continues to evolve toward outpatient modalities, offering efficient, high-quality care that benefits both patients and providers. The proposed 2026 CMS payment rule builds on recent updates by expanding the number and type of procedures that may be performed in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), reflecting the growing role of outpatient cardiovascular services.

One of the most substantial recommendations is the inclusion of electrophysiology ablation procedures to the ASC Covered Procedure List. This milestone follows years of advocacy and data from electrophysiologists and professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society, demonstrating the safety and efficacy of these procedures in appropriate outpatient settings.

The proposed rule also expands access to other cardiovascular procedures, including pacemaker implants and peripheral vascular interventions to further advancing high-quality care in lower cost settings.

At Heart & Vascular Partners, we are proud to support the inclusion of these procedures and the physicians who have long advocated for this shift. We remain grateful for the opportunity to partner with independent physicians who prioritize clinical outcomes and patient experience.

As the field of cardiovascular medicine evolves, HVP will continue to invest alongside our partners to them achieve their full clinical and operational potential while increasing access to high-quality care in the communities they serve.
